According to this section, the notice applies to a rental agreement with a period of no more than a month (that is, month-to-month or week-to-week agreement).
The landlord has to deliver such a notice to the renter at least 30 days before the rent increase. They may deliver the notice straight to the tenant in person or by mail.

The official California rent increase notice is also known as the Notice of Change in Terms of Tenancy. It ensures that landlords notify tenants about the rent increase according to state laws. You are recommended to follow the steps below to prepare this document successfully.
1. Identify the tenant
Below the form’s heading is a blank line where you need to identify the tenant to whom you are sending this notice. If there is more than one tenant, you can list their names using a comma.
2. Specify the property address
The next step is to indicate the property address, including the street address and city.
3. Indicate the date of rent Increase
Once you have added the address, you need to state the exact date from which the rent will increase.
4. Provide the new rent amount

In the next section, you must enter the new rent amount in US dollars compared to the previous rent. After that, it’s necessary to indicate the old and new rates of the fair rental value that will be considered “rental damages.” You will also need to specify the rent due date.
5. Add other changes

6. Insert the date and sign the document
The next step is to enter the date when the document is signed. After that, the owner must sign the document.
7. Select the rent increase option
Here, you must select whether your rent increase is 10% or less or over 10%. It’s crucial since it will define the effectiveness period of the notice. In the first case, the rent increase notice will be effective in 30 days if personally served upon the tenant or 35 days if served by mail. And in the second case, the rent increase notice will be effective in 60 days if personally served upon the tenant or 65 days if served by mail.
After selecting the appropriate option, you will have to specify the new rental amount, effective date, and rent due date.
8. Complete the proof of service
This section is filled out by the person delivering the document. First, they must indicate the delivery date and select the suitable delivery option, including personal service, substitute service, or post and mail. This person must also specify the tenant’s name and sign the form.
